Italian Swimmer Thomas Ceccon Sets the Internet On Fire During Paris Olympics

The Paris Olympics are heating up after Thomas Ceccon went viral on social media when Italy won the bronze medal during the men's 4x100m freestyle relay.

Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon is setting the internet ablaze during the Paris Summer Olympics. The 23-year-old Olympic champion unintentionally showcased his abs and V-line during the medal ceremony after Italy clinched the bronze in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay on July 27. Though Team USA captured gold and Australia took silver, it was Ceccon's spontaneous moment that caught everyone's attention online.

Social media platforms lit up with reactions, with one TikTok user remarking that Ceccon and the Italian swim team resembled "Calvin Klein models." Another user, who was present at the relay, shared a video of Ceccon post-ceremony, playfully admitting she'd "swipe right" on him, though she quickly switched allegiances to cheer for Team USA.


The online excitement surrounding Ceccon intensified after he claimed his first gold medal in the men’s 100m backstroke on July 29, marking him as the first Italian to achieve this feat. Chinese swimmer Xu Jiayu won silver, while Team USA’s Ryan Murphy secured bronze.


Meanwhile, fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) where he is trending, weren't missing out an sharing their opinions.




In a conversation with Rai Italia, Ceccon expressed his joy over winning Olympic gold. “I can’t be happier,” he shared. “As a kid, at 15, the coach asked me, ‘What is your dream?’ I answered, ‘To win the Olympics,’ and he said, ‘Calm down.’ But it’s always been my dream.”

Reflecting on his achievement, he added, "Winning here isn't like at the World Championships, it's a race that happens every four years. I went strong and tried to hold on until the end. And in the end, I was exhausted."


Ceccon is set to compete again in the men’s 200m backstroke event at the Paris La Défense Arena on July 31.
