It is about to feel like the early 2000s again. Clay Aiken is officially back and making a major return.

The American Idol Season 2 runner-up is releasing his first new single in eighteen years, titled “Rewind,” dropping May 11. After nearly two decades without new music, Clay is stepping back into the spotlight in a big way.

The release lines up perfectly with his return to the American Idol stage for the show’s three-hour season finale that same night. The finale is stacked with performers across multiple genres, making it one of the most packed lineups in recent memory.

Previously announced artists Alicia Keys and Brad Paisley will be joined by a wide range of talent including Jason Mraz, Mötley Crüe, Nelly, En Vogue, Shinedown, Tori Kelly, along with ’90s favorites Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms.

The nostalgia factor has already been strong this week. Monday night’s episode brought back Season 5 favorites Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, Kellie Pickler, and Elliott Yamin, who each performed duets with the finalists. Paula Abdul also returned as a guest judge, while Randy Jackson stepped back in as a mentor.

Still, all eyes are on Clay. His return to the Idol stage and the release of “Rewind” on the same night feels like a full-circle moment. For fans who remember his original run, this comeback is not just about nostalgia. It is a reminder that his voice and presence still hold weight all these years later.

May 11 is shaping up to be a must-watch night for Idol fans. Pre-save his single here.
