The art of drag has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years, and Kimora Blac is here to talk about it. The RuPaul’s Drag Race alum recently joined Obsessed, with Brandon Stewart on Brandon TV (BTV), where she shared her thoughts on how drag has evolved and its growing impact on television. Joining her in the conversation was Monique Martin from The Getaway Los Angeles, making for an insightful discussion about visibility, representation, and the cultural shift surrounding drag on TV.

Reflecting on her own journey, Kimora opened up about how different things were for her generation compared to today’s youth. She recalled, "Pros and cons. We're dealing with new generations… My generation…I didn't even know what drag was. I was a gay kid in school attracted to feminine stuff like clothing and purses, and ya know, I kind of at one point thought I was like the only one different."

For many queer individuals growing up in past decades, access to drag culture was limited or non-existent. Mainstream media rarely showcased the art form, leaving young LGBTQ+ individuals to navigate their identities without many visible role models. However, thanks to shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race and an increasing number of drag-centric productions, today’s generation has a much different experience.

Kimora emphasized this point, stating, "Now, kids in this generation and going forward can just know more about drag and keep the art of drag going. I think that's so important and amazing."

This shift in accessibility and representation is a game-changer. With drag becoming more visible across television and social media, younger audiences are growing up with a deeper understanding of self-expression and gender fluidity. It’s no longer just an underground scene; drag is now celebrated on mainstream platforms, from reality TV to scripted series, and live performances.

As the conversation wrapped up, it was clear that Kimora and Monique both recognized the power of drag’s presence in modern media. The visibility that today’s queens enjoy isn’t just about entertainment—it’s about opening doors, breaking barriers, and inspiring future generations to be unapologetically themselves.

Also announced, Monique is returning for season two of The Getaway LA, joined by Kimora Blac herself! The two had great, fun energy on the talk show, so we hope they will keep the same energy going into filming.
